“Disclaimer: I received a pair of Zensah Ultra compression sleeves to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!”
Years ago I had severe shin splints, before compression sleeves or socks, before KT tape were everyday products. I went to my PT and was introduced to neoprene compression sleeves. They were nice, but even if you didn’t exercise your legs were sweating, and the sleeves were wet, which made them hard to get off. They were also hard to wash.
As compression products became more popular, I couldn’t resist purchasing them. I have tried various socks, PF sleeves and even pants. I rarely run without my socks. I will not go back to the days of shin splints. Plus they are fun and colorful.
I currently own over 20 pairs of compressions socks made by a competitor. So this opportunity is not only to try them out but to win me over.
I love wearing the socks versus the sleeves as I don’t have to wear 2 things, but sleeves can be great to wear with flip flops.
I chose the red Ultra sleeve, strangely I do not have red in my current stash. When I chose the color I was also able to chose a size, with the chart on the website.
When I put them on, I was wondering if I ordered the wrong size, they are very tight! I believe the Ultra line is designed to provide more compression. However I got them positioned in place, and they felt very snug on my calves. I can feel or notice I am wearing them. As with socks, you can not tell I am wearing them under my jeans.
They also are very warm. I wore them on a cooler windy day, and I couldn’t feel the wind on my legs when I was outside. I am not sure how they would perform on a hot sunny day, if they would be too hot. They were not sweaty when I took them off.
The benefits of the Ultra Sleeve
- Extra tight fit
- Muscle stablization
- Increase performance
- Enhance Circulation
- Seamless
- Moisture Wicking
- Graduated Compression
- Odor Preventing
- Vertical Ribbing – targeted support
- Horizontal Stripes – supports calf muscle & relieves shin splints
Overall: I like these sleeves just as much as the other brand, they are also priced less. I would recommend these sleeves if you are considering compression as a form of recovery, or you need relief from shin pain. I think the minor thing is these sleeves are made in Italy, but they do have other products made in the USA.
