That’s right, I will be headed to Tulsa, OK at the end of October for the Tulsa Run 15k. Not only is this a well established race that hosts the USA Masters 15k race, I will be reunited with fellow BibRave Pro – ERICA!!!!!
You may recall, Erica and I had a grand ol time at the Louisiana Marathon, well more so at the post race food booths…we bonded over pork cheeks and bacon jam!
You can imagine my excitement when I found out we would be spending a weekend in Tulsa together. So, I thought I would ask her a few questions:
Have you ever been to Tulsa?
Nope! Typically the only time I visit Oklahoma is to go the casinos that are close to the border. I do enjoy saying “Tulsa, Oklahoma”, it just has a fun ring to it.
Do you enjoy traveling to races? Do you have any tips?
I do. I honestly feel that the best way to explore a new place is by running. So by visiting new places I get a supported tour of a city with a few hundred to thousands of other people. All my tips can be found in my blog post here
. But my number one tip is to plan for life outside of the race, just because you’re running doesn’t mean you can’t make it in to vacation.
*Oh I love this, make it a vacation*
What made you choose this race?
It has a great reputation and it has been around since 1978, so they must be doing something right in Tulsa! With so many race companies cutting corners and many even shutting down, it’s nice to have a solid race to go run that just happens to offer legit swag. I mean… that medal and shirt are totes amazing.
She is right – check out this year’s shirt & medal:
Will this be your first 15k?
Unfortunately not, this will be third 15k, but it will be my second 15k course…does that make sense? The 15k is such a rare distance race to find, at least in TX, so I’m pretty thrilled to be able to run another one. It’s the right amount of a challenge.
What are you looking forward to the most?
The atmosphere! Races close to an event such as Halloween always brings out the best costumes. Everyone is relaxed and having a good time and that’s what I like to see in a race. Oh, and word on the street is that there will be candy bars…who wouldn’t want to end a race with candy!??
*It’s true!! They are bringing back the finish line candy bars, look out for Snickers, M&M Peanut, M&M regular, Twix, Milky Way, Musketeers, and Snickers Almonds*
Will you run in costume?
Heck yes! I haven’t decided what though, obviously it will be orange themed with sparkles. Suggestions?
*ahh man I need help with this too, Super PRO? *
Do you have any race day rituals or traditions?
I’m weird, I have lots. My number one for race day is to remember breathe and I always say a prayer.
*Um, you’re not weird, this is what works for you*
I am looking forward to meeting up with Erica in October – The race is October 29th. I guess we both are looking for costume suggestions, so send em our way.
We know how to have a good time!! We look forward to meeting you!
