Enduring the Training

“Disclaimer: I received Gatorade Endurance products to train for the IMT Des Moines Marathon as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!”

As you know, I am headed to Des Moines to run my 29th marathon, and my first in Des Moines. Lucky for me, Gatorade Endurance will be the product offered on the course.

I was fortunate to test the Gatorade Endurance product through the early months this summer. I ran Grandma’s Marathon, Run for Troops,The Limberlost Challenge and PCTR, all with Gatorade Endurance Watermelon in my hydration pack. The extra sodium and potassium gets me through a hot, sweaty run, without the post run dehydration headache.

I ran out of this product, and it wasn’t good… resorting to eating table salt is never the best option, but it works. I am hoping one day this will be something on the shelves in convenience stores…..anyway…..

I was sent a variety pack of Gatorade Endurance products. A tub of Watermelon drink mix, Fruit Punch and Orange chews, Apple Pear and Vanilla gels and pouches of the Lemon Lime drink powder.

While I am not sure which actual flavor will be on the Des Moines Marathon course, I know I have an inventory of product to try, so race day wont be a surprise.

What am I talking about? Have you ever trained for a race that doesn’t advertise the electrolyte on course? Then get to race day and find out it, it’s not what you trained with? Now what? Think about it, train with X and race day has Y, and you spend the entire race in the port-o-potty. Maybe…. that’s a little dramatic, but training with what is provided on course is having an advantage.

*Ok, so maybe you also tried what was on course and you know you don’t like it. You also have an advantage as you know what to bring with you.

Is anyone else training for Des Moines? Or maybe you are on the fence? Well maybe saving $10 on registration with code “dmmbibravediscount18″ will help, in addition to knowing Gatorade Endurance will be there.
