Another Virtual

The IMT Des Moines Marathon Goes Virtual

“Disclaimer: I received entry into the IMT Des Moines Marathon (half) to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review, find, and write race reviews!”

As I mentioned in the last post, I was going to top off my 40th year on the planet by training to accomplish my 40th marathon (or longer.) The Des Moines Marathon was going to be part of that. I was going to participate in the I-35 challenge which would be the Kansas City Marathon on Saturday and then the Des Moines Marathon on Sunday…but all that changed.

Like many great events they keep people informed via social media and emails. The email arrived for the cancellation of the in person Des Moines Marathon. At the time I just wasn’t sure if I could run another virtual marathon – granted 2 in one weekend.

I waited to see what my options would be, also taking in the consideration for the I-35 challenge. If the events are virtual, what are the rules for the I-35 challenge?

My options for the Des Moines Marathon would be to virtually run in 2020 or defer to 2021. I went ahead with the virtual option. However, I changed my entry from the full marathon to the half marathon. I still wanted to do the events the same weekend as they were to take place. I just have no interest in doing two virtual marathons in one weekend. It was easy to make the changes in my Race Roster account.

Race registration is still open and extended to October 30th. You can run the virtual event anytime from Oct 16- Oct 31st. Don’t forget to check out the app too!

Once you complete your distance, make sure to load your results to the link in your confirmation email. Then after the Oct 31st deadline the swag will be shipped – a shirt, medal and neck gaiter.
