Luvo Meals – Order Anywhere, Anytime

Luvo – Order Anywhere, Anytime

“Disclaimer: I received Luvo Mealsto review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check to review find and write race reviews!”

If Luvo sounds familiar to you, you are remembering when I tried the meals earlier this year. While I enjoyed the steam pouches and bowls, it was tough to find them locally. Why try them again? This time I could order online!!! Plus, it makes my life so much easier, not having to worry about cooking when I am busy.

I sat down at my laptop, typed in and began the ordering process. It was easy, I clicked on the “store” page and could see all the options available to me. Next to each meal is a small description, but underneath is a button to see the complete nutritional value information, and a button to add the meal to your cart.

I started clicking on my favorites to fill my cart with first. A pop up menu appears on the left of the screen, and gives you an option to return to shipping or checkout. There is also an option to change the quantity. I continued with this process until I was done. Easy and simple to walk through or edit.

When it’s time to checkout you do so by clicking the appropriate button. This is where I had a little difficulty. I wanted to use paypal, as it is one of the options. However, I wasn’t sure when or where to enter a discount code (BIBCHAT will get you 10% off.) I wasn’t sure if I logged into my paypal if I would be charged before my discount.

I eventually figured it all out, by being “logged” into paypal, I could enter my codes and I just proceeded to pay that way. It was a lot of back and forth, but I figured it out.

I received an email that my order was received. I kept receiving emails to notify where my meals were in the shipping process, along with tracking information. Then in 3 days, there was a styrofoam box filled with my meals, complete with dry ice, on my doorstep.

As I mentioned, these meals arrived at a busy time for me, it makes meal planning sooooo much easier. I do not care for having to prepare my lunch to take to work, I can just grab a meal, throw it in the microwave at work, and it’s done.

The meals themself are full of nutrients and maybe things I wouldn’t normally eat. They are also light in calories too, so depending on your needs you might need to add some eggs or eat 2 of them at once.

Another perk, the Luvo bowls line is already in a serving dish, no need to plate them. I found myself taking one on the go, in my car!

I thought the ordering process was comparable to any online ordering system, the paypal problem could have just been because I wasn’t logged in correctly. The meals arrive quick and are easy to prepare.

A Visor For All Conditions

Product Review – BOCO Gear 360° Visor®

“Disclaimer: I received a BOCO Gear 360° Visor® to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming aBibRave Pro (ambassador), and check to review find and write race reviews!”

Whether it’s to keep my hair under control, the sun off my face or my head warm; I can easily be spotted running with something on my head.

In fact you might have seen me in a BOCO trucker hat or a Boco stocking hat. BOCO (as some of you Coloradians might know) is short for Boulder, CO – where the company was “born.”

All this rambling brings me to the newest addition to my BOCO Gear collection, the  BOCO Gear 360° Visor®!

What makes this visor so special? Well I will tell you:

  • Terry cloth liner across the forehead to reduce sweat from dripping on your face
  • elastic band on the back, no readjusting
  • machine washable
  • black under the brim to reduce glare
  • the bill is curved and fits like a normal hat – no crazy flat brimmed nonsense
  • dry tech polyester

Now – how did I make the most of this visor?

While I have been wearing it from time to time on my runs, to shield my face from the sun (which is important all year round.) I put this to it’s first test as I wore it during the Detroit Marathon, in wind gusts close to 40 mph. The visor never budged, I never worried about losing this as I ran the last few miles in a head wind.  It’s a pain if you have to worry about keeping your hat on, and uncomfortable to run with your hand on the top of your head, to keep your hat on.

Second… I have been enjoying this as an addition to cold runs. I need my head and more importantly my ears covered when it’s cold outside (insert dramatic story of my ears being frostbit as a kid.)I prefer to wear a stocking hat or multifunctional head wrap. However, those items do not block my face from the sun. It’s sooooo easy to just throw the visor on, on top of the hat – BAM, sun protection.

I think if there were a downside to this visor, it would be the sizing. For my head size, it’s fine. I like that there is no extra adjustable strap to deal with. For others it could be too big or too small.

My favorite thing about this – it’s machine washable. I don’t have time to hand wash stuff, and the running gear that requires that treatment gets neglected. This just makes taking care of my visor so much easier.

Health Warrior Chia Bars – review

Review of the Health Warrior Chia Bars

“Disclaimer: I received 2 boxes of Health Warrior Chia Bars to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!”

I can’t resist a good bar, with that being said I have also had my fair share of disgusting bars. With so many options out there, I was happy to try out the Health Warrior Chia Bars.

I ripped open the brown cardboard box, when it arrived, to find 2 boxes of Health Warrior Chia bars inside. I received the chocolate peanut butter and vanilla almond. In addition to the bars, there was a cool surprise – The Coloring Book, Marathon Training.

What the heck is chia, and why should you eat it? Well it is that plant seed that grows into a pet, but it’s also a superfood – the most nutrient dense food on the planet!

chia boasts more omega-3s than salmon, more protein than an egg, more calcium than milk, and more fiber than flax

This superfood is combined with other ingredients to make a gluten free, soy free, dairy free and vegan bar, yet only 4-5 grams of sugar. These are near 100 calories and help you feel full as they contain protein, fiber, fat and omega-3.

How do they taste? This is where I am always skeptical. I love all the benefits these provide, but I am not going to eat them if I don’t like them. I am here to say, these are good!!!! They taste like a granola bar…the flavors I received, taste just as described. You get a whiff of vanilla before you bite into the vanilla almond and you just can’t go wrong with peanut butter.

I think my favorite thing about these are you can see the ingredients that are listed on the label. They are not a mushed up, dried out, chalky square.

I found myself taking these with me to work. They are the perfect snack to hold me to lunch time.

I also snuck them into Camp Randall, Kinnick Stadium and Carver Hawkeye Arena. Who wants to pay concession stand prices for bad for you food?

I have my eyes on the new sea salt caramel flavor and I would like to try their line of pumpkin seed bars too. Ok, who am I kidding, I would like to try them all as all my boxes are empty!

I think the only bad thing about these bars is when the chia seeds get stuck in your teeth.

I mentioned a coloring book – that’s right!!! If you place an order through this link – you will be sent the Marathon Training coloring book. It’s funny and filled with the truth about marathon training.

I was able to stay in the lines!

I know the other pros were sent other flavors so make sure to check out their thoughts: CaseyBrendaJessicaPaulaStephanie MattAmyJanelleLindsey Emily Samantha

BUFF® ThermoNet™

BUFF® ThermoNet™ – Product Review

“Disclaimer: I received entry into the BUFF® ThermoNet™  multifunctional head wrap and hat to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!”

I have welcomed another BUFF® multifunctional head wrap into my home! I have quite the collection, and with the cooler temps approaching I was ready to give this new ThermoNet a go!

What is ThermoNet? It’s the technology that manages the moisture from sweat, it prevents freezing.  This also features Primaloft® which makes the fabric 4 times warmer without the bulk. All this fancy wording means that this BUFF® collection holds the heat and not the moisture, while containing the seamless design that allows the comfort you’re used to.

I received a hat and multifunctional head wrap to test, in the crash-berry color. At first I noticed how different the material felt to my hands, it didn’t feel any thicker, but felt more “rugged” and a little rougher.

Even though we were going through a heat wave, I did have to try it on. I slipped it over my head and noticed it fit a little tighter than the normal BUFF® multifunctional headwrap, and the ends were folded over, instead of the usual raw cut.

I waited out the weather and was finally able to wear it on a run. It was a run I started before the sun came up, so It was quickly around my neck as the day warmed up. I would say I enjoyed the fit, but not sure I was able to properly test it on that run.

The next run was a gloomy day, so I ditched my usual visor and wrapped it around my head like a head band. I really didn’t feel too hot with it, but I also didn’t notice that it felt too heavy with sweat.

The first few runs I was just wearing it to get more of the feel of it, but recently the weather has decided to skip fall and we have had temps near 30 degrees including some strong winds, PERFECT for giving it a real test.

I wore the multifunctional wrap to a football game, this included the standing around to tailgate. The wind whipped around all afternoon in that parking lot. Wearing it around my face kept me so warm and the wind out. It also kept me warm as the Hawkeyes went on to win the game.

I then tossed on the hat under my visor as it was sunny. I run in a standard stocking hat a lot, but adding a visor makes it quite cumbersome. So 1) The hat fit great with the visor, not as bulky. And 2) I think this was the first time I really felt the moisture management at work, yet still keeping me warm. The hat was wet when I took it off, but I never felt cold because it was wet.

One last method I have tried this out on was at an auction. The multifunctional wraps are great for just everyday. You know that part of your coat that just doesn’t zip close enough to your chin? You know the reason people wear a scarf? Well they can just get in the way… throw on this and you keep all cozy in your coat, and you can pull it up over your face. It was doing a great job of keeping the wind at bay.

Overall: I like this new material, can’t wait for it to get even colder!!! Layers are important in winter running and this is a good one as a base to keep the moisture out and the heat in, without the bulk.

This is also easy to care for, you can hand or machine wash, just don’t stick this in the dryer and keep it away from fabric softeners.

Do you have your eye on a new BUFF® ThermoNet™  multifunctional head wrap and hat? Well good news – you can save 20% off your entire order at when you purchase at least one product from the ThermoNet™ collection. Includes ThermoNet™ Multifunctional Headwear, Hats or Balaclavas. OOFOS Project Pink

“Disclaimer: I received entry a pair of OOFOS OOahh Sport Project Pink Sandal to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!”

I am back with another OOFOS review, seriously great shoes, I couldn’t resist when BibRave gave me the opportunity to try a different pair that benefits breast cancer research.

That’s right the Project Pink line of OOFOS donates $10 from every pair. Check out the collection, there is a shoe for everyone. I went with the OOahh Sport Project Pink Sandal.

I have the OOriginal Sport Sandal and the OOmg Low shoe, which are both great. However, I decided to go with the slide on version of the shoe as I wanted something that I could slide on with socks after a race. Yes, I can do that with the Low Shoe, but honestly it looks silly.

A little refresher about OOFOS:

  • absorbs 37% more shock with every step than traditional footwear foam.
  • reduces stress on your back, knees and feet
  • the patented footbed cradles your arch
  • you can throw them in the washing machine to clean them
  • they flex with the foot and the ground
  • allows your feet to breathe

Now, why do I continue to wear OOFOS? Have you ever had Plantar Fasciitis? Well, I have and I would like to prevent it from coming back. They are also my go to shoe for wearing around inside my house on the hardwood and tile floor.

They are also great as an every day shoe from getting coffee to going to football games.

Recently, I have been enjoying them for travel. They are easy and light weight to pack. Which makes them easy to slide on post race. Recovery has never been easier.

I might have my eye on the OOmg High Shoe next.

The Project Pink collection starts with models priced at $44.95.

5kCrate – Product Review

A review of the 5kCrate

“Disclaimer: I received a 5kCrate to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!”

Sure, you have seen many of my reviews on running subscription boxes… you know the kind you sign up for a monthly subscription to receive a box full of running related product samples? Well the 5kCrate is a runner’s subscription box, but different – it’s a quarterly subscription and it contains no food, rather premium running gear.

Also to note, since this box sends gear, when you sign up you submit your shirt size as well as your shoe size.

Check out my unboxing video -

Alright, you saw what was inside, let me give you more information about these products, and my thoughts after using them.

I know the review is about the box itself, but I feel describing the types of products you would receive is beneficial to knowing if this is the subscription box for you.

Zensah Peek Running Socks – These are ankle height running socks. Made with moisture wicking and anti-odor fabric. Lightweight with a seamless toe and targeted arch support. The are sized S, M, L based on shoe size. *To be fair, I own a lot of Zensah socks, as they are a great durable product, I was excited to see these in the box. While they fit great, they feel great. These are about $14.

Epic Wipe – The Original Massive Wet Wipe: There were 2 of these in the box. They individually packaged. They are HUGE!!! They have a pine scent, due to the eucalyptus oils, but that scent goes away. I used them after a runch and after a race, they do their job quite well. The claim the GIANT size is so you don’t have to use multiple wipes, but I think half the size would be plenty. I need to add these to my travel bag, they came in handy. A 10 pack is about $25

LA Fresh travel-lite Sunscreen Wipe – Included in the 5k crate were 2 wipes. The package is small, and the wipe opens up to about 5″x 6″ in size. It contains SPF 30. *I will admit, I suck at applying sunscreen… plus it’s just an added pain. However this little wipe is very convenient, it easily fits in a pocket. I brought it to a football game, so it’s easier than bringing in a bottle, gets past security, and your hands don’t feel all gooey when you are done. I wish the box included more of these. 50 wipes are $25

SpiGen R12E bluetooth wireless headphones: These come with a USB charging cord, and a bag of adjusters for your ear. I don’t know where to start with these… I do not have a good history with ear bud type headphones, they do not stay in my ear, I’ve tried the rubbery pieces that go on these that are supposed to keep them in your ear, they just do not work in my ear. I did try wearing these around my house, as I do love bluetooth, wireless headphones…and these almost sell for the cost of this box, around $49. However, these would not stay in my ears and I was just walking around my kitchen. All that said, this is a great addition to the box, the fit thing is just something that is MY problem. They did sound good, and you can control the music and songs from a touch of your finger on the outside of the ear bud. They are also easy to pair with a phone and simple to charge.

Mission Cooling Towel: When I received this box to test, it wasn’t super hot outside, so I still need to give this a few tries as the weather has heated back up. However, it’s a nice soft towel, with a simple concept… wet it, snap it, put on you to keep cool. The water doesn’t drip from the towel either. Looks like these cost about $20

Mission Vapor Active Alpha Tee: This is not your ordinary tech tee. First it’s sized for a woman, so it fits me nice. Next it dries up to 5 times faster, keeping you cool and dry. I wore this a couple times, I guess maybe I didn’t notice the 5 times faster thing, but I also didn’t feel like I was wearing a super soaked shirt. I will be honest, I do not need another shirt in my life, but this is a nice one. This sells for $25
My Overall thoughts: At first I was skeptical, I was wanting another gadget or something, or a few more wipes. However, I do think this box is a great idea – and you are definitely getting your money’s worth. It contains no food samples, just quality running gear. I agree with my friend, Mark – it’s a great box for a newer runner, someone who might not already have all the gear. At this time in my life, I do not have the extra income to continue with a subscription.

That being said….this would be a perfect gift for that hard to buy runner in your life.

The 5k crate is $59 per quarter and they are currently taking pre-orders for their fall box, which will start shipping in early October –

Road ID Wrist ID Elite – Product Review

“Disclaimer: I received a Road ID Wrist ID Elite to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out to review find and write race reviews!”

I jumped on the chance to try this model of Road ID, not only because I needed to upgrade my current name badge, but mostly because I am very passionate about runner safety.

What is Road ID?

Simple – an ID you can carry on you for safety reasons. There are various models depending on where you want to wear the ID. Each model has a name badge, that is customized online. Suggested information are people to call, allergies or blood type. However you can put what you like on your ID. This ID is great for all outdoor activities, your pets, your children, anywhere! It’s easy to wear.

They also provide interactive IDs, which will provide more information online, such as medical history. There is also an app you can use on your phone to notify friends where you are running.

My Road ID story:

I came across Road ID years ago when I purchased the Shoe ID. At the time I thought I would never forget or lose it as it would always be on my shoe. However, that all changed when I met a guy at the post race of the Shipyard Old Port Half Marathon. He said he was hit by a car once, and his shoe flew off… they never found that shoe.

Lucky for me, many name badges are interchangeable with the bands, so I bought the Wrist ID sport. At the time, the only option was the cloth with velcro strap. This ID was good, but it wasn’t my favorite as the cloth didn’t stand up to the sweat, and it didn’t smell pretty.

Road ID then came out with the Wrist ID Slim. A silicone banded ID. I had to have this!!! I upgraded to this model. The old cloth ID was demoted to luggage tag. The new silicone band has been my everyday ID until the wrist ID elite came along. I never took it off. It held up to the sweat. I always had it on me. I even bought a lot of badges for it.

Then came the Wrist ID Elite. I really needed to upgrade my name badge on my slim. I had a silver badge and because I wore it everyday for probably 3 years, it was scratching off and getting hard to read. I also had my eyes on the new black name badge, and I would be able to get that with the Wrist ID Elite

Wrist ID Elite

First, you choose the faceplate and clasp color, then you select the band color – all done online. I then easily filled out the prompts online to customize my new name badge. I have my name, year of birth, my home city, 3 contacts, and made sure to note I have no known allergies. I also added a “Go Hawks.”  I also added a badge, which is like a charm to my order.

I received many emails letting me know the status of my order and when it shipped. The emails were just as witty as the printing on the envelope it arrived in. They are number one in the customer service department.

I opened the envelope to find my ID in a nice little tin. There were also some coupons inside and the badge I ordered.

The thing to note with this particular model of ID is that you need to cut the bracelet to fit your wrist. This process is simple, well after a little help from an online tutorial, but I wanted to make sure I didn’t cut it to short and I didn’t want the bracelet too tight.

I clasped this on my right wrist at first. I wear a lot of bracelets on this wrist. Hmmm, it just didn’t fit on that one…. so I switched it to my left wrist with my watch.

This is where I wore my Wrist ID Slim…well and to be honest, I still am wearing the old silicone band with all my badges… because I want to wear all my badges, and they don’t fit on the Wrist ID Elite.

When I run, I don’t notice my wrist ID Elite is there, however in my everyday life I notice this model. I am not sure it’s an ID I can continue to where 24/7. When doing some yard work – raking to be exact, the name badge would push the start button on my watch. Also if I have the clasp to close to my watch clasp, it will pinch my skin. So, maybe I need to wear on the other wrist. This is just my own personal preference.

I do love that it has 6 lines to add text, and I love the black badges. I think I personally prefer the smaller band with no extra clasps. I was thinking I would get a new name badge for my old smaller band….but then, Road ID came out with some news…

They have been making name badge for watches or fitness trackers for a while now, and finally they are making one for my watch model. This is what I am going to get. I can wear my watch and my old band with the badges I have.

My personal soapbox:

I run all over – trails, sidewalks, streets, gravel. I am tired of hearing all the excuses as to why you do not run with ID, and don’t get me started about not running with a phone. You never know when a car will miss a stop sign, you might fall on the trail, a dog attacks, an undetected health problem happens, you get lost, you’re dehydrated…on and on and on. YOU JUST NEVER KNOW, so why not be proactive?

Bottom line… GET ONE! This is the simplest thing to wear on a run, and it’s super affordable. While the wrist ID Elite may not be the model for me or you, they have a huge selection to chose from depending on your preference to wear it.

This link will provide a $5 gift-card to use towards your purchase:   The $5 gift-card is valid for 2 weeks after sign-up (copy of the gift-card will be emailed.)

Make sure to check out Road ID on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. They are always coming up with new colors, badges and models. (um rose gold anyone?)
