Criss Crossed!

I’M DONE!

I completed the virtual crossing of the state of Illinois on March 22nd. If you read my last post you know I crossed the west to east route in one month. It took me since then to finish the entire distance of 659 miles.

This challenge was part of the Illinois Marathon. The race directors hosted a virtual event even though they have not been able to hold an in person race the last 2 years. They have been holding webinars on their Facebook page and put together one of the most thorough guides I have seen.

Check out the route guides:

The Criss-Cross West-to-East Route Guidebook from East Hannibal, Illinois, to Danville, Illinois. The Criss-Cross North-to-South Guidebook from South Beloit, Illinois to Cairo, Illinois.

The swag for the event began shipping near the end of January, beginning of February. Each challenge distance received a little something different.

For completion of both routes I received a pullover, a beanie, a face mask, a challenge coin and a Nuun tablet.

Running has never been cancelled for me, it was nice to have a place to log my miles. Sure winter was tough and I might have only made it a mile a day, but it all counted towards my goal.

I am not sure if I am totally sold on the world of virtual, but I do like that the platform exists. It allows race companies/events to continue to support their communities. This was a different twist on virtual and lasted over a significant period of time.

The bad news is registration for this event closes April 7, and if you want to save $5 you can do so with code BRP5OFF. https://illinoismarathon.com/races/criss-cross-virtual-challenge/

The good news is that you can back log all your miles since November 5th… so maybe you have already met the distance goal. Also the end date has now been extended through June 1st. So what are you waiting for, support
